how to install on Classic II 4 Mb?

Hello list!

Has anyone succeeded in installing GNU/Linux on a Macintosh Classic II with 4Mb RAM (no FPU)? I have tried some different kernels and ramdisks without success.

The best try so far is when kernel boots fine, but cannot mount root fs:

"RAMDISK: Compressed image found at block 0
EXT2-fs warning: checktime reachesd, running e2fsck is recommended
VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem).
VFS: Cannot open root device 00:00
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 00:00"

the ramdisk used is filesys-elf_2_0_x-1400k-2.gz

Any hints, experiences ...

TIA

Hans Ekbrand
