Where did you get the 2.4.0 source code?  The source from kernel.org
will not compile on the m68k Macs.  You must use the source from the
SourceForge CVS which you can retrieve using the following commands:

cvs
-d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.linux-mac68k.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/linux-mac68k
login                           
cvs -z3
-d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.linux-mac68k.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/linux-mac68k
co linux-mac68k
