dselect/apt problem solved!

Title: dselect/apt problem solved!
I had this problem with dselect/apt and I know others on the list have also:

I have installed Debian m68k onto a Quadra 630 (as well as a SE/30) on three or four occasions and have had this problem every time:  after the initial Debian install via HTTP using dselect, I cannot use dselect again to update packages.  dselect works fine on the initial install, but is broken thereafter.  In particular, if option 1 (Update) of the dselect menu is selected, the following error message is given:

/usr/lib/dpkg//methods/apt/update: line 20:   265 Segmentation fault      $APTGET $OPTS update

update available list script returned error exit status 139.
Press RETURN to continue.

Option 3, Install, will give the following error:

installation script returned error exit status 139.
Press RETURN to continue.

I submitted a bug report to the APT folks, and was told by Jason Gunthorpe that the problem was fixed in later versions of apt and that I should upgrade probably to apt in potato distribution, as well as libc. Here are the packages that I installed using the "dpkg -i" command to install manually:

-rw-r--r--   471126 May  3 15:13 apt_0.3.18.deb
-rw-r--r--   258218 May  3 15:33 ldso_1.9.11-7.deb
-rw-r--r--   1991790 May  8 08:21 libc6-dev_2.1.3-8.deb
-rw-r--r--   1885308 May  3 15:14 libc6_2.1.3-8.deb
-rw-r--r--   145226 May  3 15:42 libstdc++2.10-glibc2.1_2.95.2-9

dselect now seems to work properly!  I haven't seen any problems with other applications as a result of these installs, but I haven't used the system extensively yet.  Look for the files here: ftp://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/dists/potato/main/binary-m68k/
