Re: compiling
Most likely, besides GCC, you will need these packages :
make
libc6-dev
binutils
kernel-headers-2.0.36 (or kernel-source-2.0.36)
They're the basic things.. but typically each program you try to
compile is likely to require other various *-dev or lib* packages,
it should discuss them in the documentation.
