X virtual window settings
Hello list,
I've been having a look at Debian-m68k for two weeks now and have
reached the point where I've got X-windows running with xdm at
800x600x8 on an Amiga A1200, so at least now I can read the man/xman
pages and config files on a reasonably sized screen :-)
After spending the last four days thinking that my corrupted displays
were due to either bit-depth or Sync timing problems, I've traced the
cause to the virtual window size settings. I'd like to run with the
virtual window feature disabled so I tried setting the virtual window
size to the same size as the Mode settings (i.e. 800x600) but when I
try to use this, windows are opened 'outside' the new virtual window
resulting in a corrupted display. I also noticed though that when the
'default' (640x480) settings are used, this doesn't happen, so I know
there must be a config setting somewhere that deals with this. I've
tried running xfishtank and xmountains to check that X is running ok
but have noticed that xmountains (with installation default settings
and no params) wants to open a window that is wider than my display -
if I am able to 'disable' the virtual window feature, what will happen
if I run a prog which tries to open a window larger than my display -
will it corrupt it or will it be handled by the VW-disable solution?
As I said, I know there must be a config option somewhere, but I've
looked at the man pages that appear to be relevent (and a few only
slightly so) and I've also looked at all the config files I can find
but I'm still missing (or mis-interpreting) it.
If anyone can point me to the appropriate docs/config files it'd be
appreciated. Any hints/tips too ;-)
Also, anyone know of an Amiga-uk/gb keymap?
Thanks and bye,
LeeE
