More ethernet card woes...

I went through the whole install procedure again just to make
sure I got everything right, checked with network guys to make sure all
my settings (netmask, gateway, ip, etc.) were all correct, rebooted
several times, fiddled with ifconfig after reading the manual page, ran
snoop on my Sun pointed toward the Quadra's hardware address, and I get
nothing. The ifconfig program gives me information about the interface,
and it's all the right info, but the card isn't transmitting or
receiving packets.
I did figure out that I have a flaky tranceiver (the dangly
thing which plugs into the Mac and provides for connection to the BNC in
our office), but it works for sustained periods of time in MacOS, so I
figured it would work (albeit flakily) in Linux. At any rate, the
transceiver is slated to be replaced soon, so I'll know more after that
happens, of course.
	Any thoughts?

Of course you can't flap your arms and fly to the moon. After a while you'd
run out of air to push against.
