installing onto quadra 840AV

Hi Folks,

I'm a newbie here so please be nice to me! Today I began a project I am very
excited about: installing Debian m68k Linux onto a Mac Quadra 840AV. Here's
what I have done so far:

1. Partitioned an external 500MB HD into a) a 25MB MacOS partition, b) a
225MB unix root partition, c) a 225MB unix usr partition, and d) a 25MB unix
swap partition.
3. Ran Install.sit and installed the /debian directory onto the root of the
MacOS partition.
4. Copied base2_1.tgz into the /debian directory.
5. Ran Peguin Prefs and selected the kernal (linux) and ramdisk (root.bin).
6. Selected Boot Now from the Penguin Prefs File menu.

As described in the Install Guide, the monitor changed colors and froze for
a second. Then the screen went white. About 20 lines of info about the
system appeared in black type. Then it froze. The last lines are:

M68K Serial driver version 1.01
Mac 68K Z8530 serial driver version 1.01
ttyS0 at 0x50f04002: Macintosh SSC
ttyS1 at 0x50f04000: Macintosh SSC

If anyone can assist me I'd really appreciate it. My understanding is that
the 840AV is a supported model, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks
in advance for any info!
