I don't think regular, commercial sponsors will care. It'd allow you
to receive donations, presumably tax-free, but companies won't be
making those.

The problems we've had for DC15 going with a NPO is that we're very
limited on the way we're allowed to spend money. For instance,
a conference dinner for conference attendees is not really
considered to be "in public interest" (while the conference is), and
so we're forced to jump through hoops.

Depends on how we organise it and where we want the money. Going via
SPI/FFIS means your dependent on their reporting to know who paid,
which is not real-time at best.

Also, check whether such fees incur VAT. In Germany, conference fees
are VAT exempt if they are primarily used to cover the expenses of
the conference.

See my other message: in this case, we won't be claiming any VAT
against those expenses and it'll be even more important that (a) we
charge VAT onwards to sponsors, and (b) research alternative means.
