Martin had his toungue firmly in his cheek when he said that (i.e. he
was making a joke) -- I think you can be confident that we've all
noticed that Debian is both Gratis and quite good.

That said, it is a fact that if you charge someone for something, they
will almost always pay more attention (all other things being equal, and
assuming they've not already devoted a decade or two of their lives to
the free thing, in which case they're already paying attention).

FWIW I thought this seemed like rather a good idea of Martin's.
