Re: [Debconf-team] Debconf thoughts

Hi,

we are long aware of the issues at Le Camp as we are aware about issues at
other locations, this is precisly *why* we choose Le Camp, because long
evaluations considering up and downsides of several options have resulted in
Le Camp being our best option for a great DebConf in Switzerland.

Especially given the overwhelming impact of the discrimination effects of
_money_, which is an extremly great factor for any DebConf in Switzerland, I
think Le Camp is a very good choice. We will be more equal there than in most
*any* other place in that country.

And this has been decided several times by our regular decision means, which
are scheduled+logged irc meetings. And then there was a DPL appeal, which the
DPL delegated to the chairs and the chairs then had a meeting in #debconf-
team, where we decided to that breaking ties was not needed as we thought the
teams decision to go with Le Camp was still sound, so we confirmed that the
contract with Le Camp should still be signed now (pending some editorial
changes, if they are possible).

So we will have DebConf13 in Le Camp. Yay! \o/

(And yes, sadly there are always some people who will not be able to go some
places and some others who "just" dont like some choices. That's why each year
we choose something new. And organizing DebConf is an open process, but it
also has some established procedures, and for DebConf13 we know since a long
time that things need to be done well in advance. In fact we are already late
according to our plannings... so basically this is it, please see the third
paragraph of this very mail. Well, unless someone wants to lift this yet
higher (and IMO even more disrespectful against debconf-team), and gets five
seconds...)

So can we please now concentrate on the work ahead?! In a somewhat positive
fashion as well, please. I would like us to see challanges more under a
positive light, and not always as problems.

(Same with Debian Day which I so think we shall naturally do on August 16th,
the projects 20th birthday. This is something totally great, which shall be
celebrated around the world, and we'll be _one_ bunch of people contributing
(quite probably quite significantly) to an awesome world wide event. If we
make it happen like this. How exactly needs to be seen, a website connecting
different events via streams and files seems obvious too.)

cheers,
	Holger

P.S.: And I'm taller than 1.90m and I slept fine in those beds there... :-)
And instead of claiming we cannot have families there, can those
families please speak up, I'm sure we can find ways to accomodate very
different needs there, including families and people who insist on one
room mate only. And for those who cannot stand anyone in their room:
sadly there are only 3 true single rooms. But so far all 3 of them are
free and unclaimed :-) Registrations hasnt started yet.
And now I will try to work on sponsors again...
