Thanks for that, here is my interpretation:

1. when you put pen to paper and sign the contract, DC13 has a debt of
32k (but no cash changes hands)

2. on 20 December, DC13 pays 20k CHF, so the debt is now 12k and 20k
cash is unrefundable

3. ~31 January, the debt becomes 28k

4. 20 February, another 20k cash is paid, so 40k cash is unrefundable
and 8k debt outstanding

5. ~30 April, the debt becomes 80k

6. 20 May, another 20k cash is paid, so 60k cash is unrefundable and 20k
debt outstanding

7. ~July, a further 100k must be paid, or the 60k cash is sacrificed and
DC13 has a debt of 84k CHF

Is that money to be paid from sponsorship, or money left over from DC12,
or can the money be borrowed (e.g. from Debian itself)?

How did it work in the last two DebConfs? I heard rumors that most
sponsors only pay within the last few weeks before?
