At dc10, we did 55 minutes + 5 minute breaks. The overwhelming
consensus was that this was a serious mistake. Something like what zack
is proposing (45+15) would have been much better.

In addition to the good arguments zack made, i'll add one more:

 * time for the video team to actually take a bit of a break, rather
than scrambling continuously between talks.

Being on the video team is a strenuous job, and the video team does
amazing work for 7 days in a row. Letting them do things like go to the
bathroom or grab a snack seems like a friendly thing to do.

Thanks, video team! And mea culpa for being one of the folks who
settled on the 55+5 format of DC10.

PS note also that you may want even longer breaks if the venues are
geographically far apart. at DC10, the farthest distance between any
two conference rooms could be covered in a couple minutes by most
attendees. if we'd had space on the other end of campus, it would have
been a different matter.
