Hi, thanks for bringing this up this way, that is, as a "nice slice" of the big topic "what is debconf and how should it be done" :-) On Dienstag, 14. September 2010, Moray Allan wrote: > What is DebConf for? How gonna we decide on our collective answer? For me, those are _the_ reasons to participate in (organizing and attending) DebConfs. > Reward to contributors This probably too, but in a different way you described (and thus correctly despised). Stefano put it in very nice words in http://upsilon.cc/~zack/blog/posts/2010/04/the_DebConf_Newbies_initiative/ where he wrote: "that attending DebConf increases the enthusiasm of attendees and ultimately will make them better Debian citizens". Which is, well, kind of a reward ;-p So in summary, DebConf is mainly "events (talks, workshops, bofs, round tables, etc), RL interactions and a time to get work done" to me. It's what the focus of our efforts of organising DebConf should be aimed at. And from there, other goals are derived. For example, we need good network and food, to have pleasant and fruitful events & interactions & work :) > How should we order these purposes as priorities -- what's the most > important aspect of DebConf? I believe it's not possible (or rather useful) to rank within those three. "Other goals" are ranked considerably lower, but the first three tie. cheers, Holger
