debconf7 was delayed getting off the ground, and given there wasn't a
clear consensus in favour of sponsorship levels, and that debconf has a
history of not needing or using them, deferring the discussion and getting
on with organising debconf7 was completely the right decision, IMHO.

Personally, I'd suggest the debconf8 folks chat with sponsors at debconf7
and see what sort of things they're trying to achieve by supporting
debconf, and seeing what can be done to improve that in future. That might
involve introducing sponsorship levels to improve recognition of sponsors,
or it just might involve finding ways of running debcamp/debconf/debianday
better in future so that we end up with even more improvements to Debian.
But you never know if you don't ask.

Heck, I think the list of companies on the back of DebConf t-shirts is
nice just as an indication of the moral support and friendship they have
for Debian and free software, even without the contribution to helping
DebConf directly that it implies.
