This will all be about Linux drivers. While Intel may be helping to fund
this project it's not designed to be an Intel initiative. This will be a
framework that the entire Linux ecosystem would contrbute to... HP, AMD,
Debian, Red Hat, Novell, etc. If ATI or NVIDIA wants to add knowledge
and informationa about their drivers on Linux systems, they would be
welcome to. There is currently no knowlegebase that explains how every
driver works on every board, chipset or peripheral. That is what this
goal is.

Thanks,
Mike

Anreas,

I think Mike answered very well, but just wanted to add and help clarify

The talk isn't about free/non-free drivers and firmware, nor their
loaders or installers. The talk is about providing generic framework and
tools to help locate appropriate hardware and software dependencies when
need to support certain hardware features.
This targets audience of debian and debian-derived distribution
builders, and actual debian-based solution integrators. "Topper" is
prototype of a tool that captures system requirements on software and
extends known approaches/concepts of PDK (Progeny) and CDD (Ubuntu) to
configure/install optimal set of OSS packages tailored to support given
set of hardware. Think of a "PDK" that contains data on hardware
devices...
"What do I need to do to make my 3d accel features to work or suspend to
RAM to work if I'm using LinEx based off 2.6.14 kernel ?" This are the
questions you may be able to answer with ther Topper.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Max.
