Network Documentation, part one



 Hello,

 Below should be all needed information from users point of view.

 General information and tips can be found from:

 Wired access in Smokki and Dorm: 

 - Plug and play. Use dhcp. If you need static address, talk
 to organizers first.

 ----------
 Wireless access in Smokki and Dorm:

 - you need package xsupplicant, authentication servers
 certificate, username and password. Account information
 and the certificate are available in COMAS.

 - first configure xsupplicant, point it to the certificate,
 and add username and password to PAP section. EAP type in
 use is EAP-TTLS.
 
 - associate to essid "debconf", and use dummy WEP key
 "ffff-ffff-ff":
 
   iwconfig eth1 essid debconf enc ffff-ffff-ff
 
 - bring up your wireless interface without ip:

   ifconfig eth1 up

 - start up first xsupplicant, and then dhcp client.

 Wireless access at CSD building:

 - Use same username and password as above, after
 reading the instructions at:

 http://www.tkk.fi/cc/services/aalto/

 What you should never do:

 - Connect your own WLAN AP to the local network, or route
 packets throgh your wireless card to the local network.

 What you should know:

 - All inbound connections to our netblock are blocked. 
 - ICMP is filtered, also UDP, and only most frequently
 used TCP ports are open for outside connections.

 Some services that are available:

 ntp.hut.fi  	for NTP
 smtp.hut.fi 	for mail relaying.
 ns1.hut.fi	130.233.224.1
 ns2.hut.fi	130.233.224.13
