Hi! We need to write three press releases for DebConf5. Here is my general idea for them: 1. Announce DebConf5: time, place and general information. Also, where to register. 2. Announce DebConf5 talks: short blurb with general information, then more details about the talks this year. 3. Announce the end of DebConf5: short blurb with general information, then impressions that outline the progress made. Quotes from humans encouraged. Forward-looking: "wonder where the next DebConf will be; see you there". Drafts are provided below. Please comment on these. There are probably horrible errors since I'm not a native English speaker, but do try to look at the "tone" and "message" of these texts. We can always fix the language if we know what we want to say. --8<-- DRAFT for press release 1. Its target audience is Debian developers, though Debian users are welcome to attend as well. The event is based around talks, demos, coding parties and discussions. It is highly technical in nature. DebConf features speakers from around the world. It is also used for developing key software for Debian and other projects, including the next release of the Debian GNU/Linux system. For further information about DebConf, including registration for participants, please see http://www.debconf.org/debconf5/ --8<-- DRAFT for press release 2. (sources: http://www.debconf.org/debconf5/, numbers and facts made up -- this is just a general outline/template in which real details will be filled in. My hope is that this will allow us to make a press release as soon as required after DebConf5.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Debian Project http://www.debconf.org/ Sixth Annual Debian Developers Conference ends (DRAFT) events@debian.org July 18th, 2005 http://www.debian.org/News/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sixth Annual Debian Developers Conference ends The 6th annual Debian Developers Conference (DebConf) was held in Helsinki, Finland from July 10th to July 17th. Attendance at the conference was high, with NNN registered attendees and [countless] sporadic visitors (?). The conference gave a new spark of life to the Debian Project. Branden Robinson, Debian Project Leader, noted that "Blah blah blah". DebConf is organized by a group of volunteers connected to the Debian Project. Andreas Schuldei coordinated the group and managed the process in cooperation with local organizers in Helsinki. "I think that blah blah blah", says Schuldei, and concludes: "Yet another success". Debian Developer XYZ, who has participated in nearly all Debian Developers Conferences to date, found the conference to be particularly exciting this year. "We had a lot of blah blah blah." He encourages more developers and Debian users to attend the next Debian Developers Conference. "It's a great way of meeting people." [More experiences] Some ideas on the 2006 DebConf were discussed, but the location and exact time are yet to be announced. Andreas Schuldei notes, "The selection process for DebConf is largely based on... As we move to involve more people, we need..." DebConf was made possible by a number of sponsors, whom we'd like to thank: list-of-sponsors (?). The Debian Project wishes to thank all those involved, and we hope to see you at DebConf 2006 as well as all the other Debian-related events during the following year! --8<-- (I was going to say that in order to keep things manageable, please separate your replies per press release, but since I didn't do that for the original mail, just do as you please. I'll try to sum things up and put it in the Wiki if neccessary (although I usually prefer to work via email).) Cheers, -- Fabian Fagerholm <fabbe@paniq.net>
