Frankly, I'm not happy to bring this up in the public - but I've tried several times and in various ways to have this problem solved, in official and semi-official ways, and occasionally by some rumbling as well. I don't even know whether the messages were received. So I feel like I have no other choice ... Several times already, the most annoying events of the DebConfs I've attended was the dinner¹, for just one reason: The noise situation destroys everything that would make this quality time, and there's nothing I can do but wait for an opportunity to return to venue as soon as possible. In my understanding, the dinner is about (verbal) communication, at least during the time we are seated around a table and have our meals. However, several hundred people in a single room already create some noise just by chatting. Adding music, artificial or live, makes things worse. In such a situation, I have difficulties talking even to the people sitting next to me, and a conversation around the table is plain impossible. I strongly doubt it's just me. Dinner is not the loudest event at a DebConf. Cheese&Wine is worse. But there I can walk away a few steps and still have a chance to interact with some people who share the same pain. As however the dinner is taking place somewhere else, I'd rather feel locked away, not enjoying a single second, and being angry about all this. What can we expect for this year? Is there a chance people like me can come out of this with their ears bleeding? Christoph ¹ 2016 in Cape Town, 2019 in Curitiba, 2022 in Kosovo.
