Join Us for Two Collaborative Sprints Tomorrow!
Hi DebConf attendees,
We’d like to invite you to participate in two sprints happening tomorrow:
New Contributors Onboarding Sprint[1]
Time: 10:00 / Location: "Elsewhere"
Preparation of "Dealing with Dormant Packages – Ensuring Debian’s High Standards"[2]
Time: 10:00 - no end specified / Location: Hacklab
While these locations were chosen for practical reasons, they’re not
ideal: "Elsewhere" can be hard to find—especially for newcomers—and the
Hacklab lacks a screen (which we’ll need for presentations). So we
intend to move to the BoF room right oposite to the Hacklab. You can
feel perfectly free to switch between both rooms at any time.
Everything is informal and we are open to anything.
Interestingly, we realised today that the *beginning* of the "Dormant
Packages" sprint is actually quite newcomer-friendly. It builds on the
Bug of the Day idea[3], which was originally designed to engage new
contributors. So, we’ll start with a short introduction to that
initiative and its goals—this should be both accessible and useful to
those just getting started in Debian.
As we move forward, we’ll dive into broader reflections from that
experience, including:
1. How we handle orphaned packages today,
2. Whether our current models of package ownership still serve us well,
3. How to better support packages of volunteers who’ve moved on,
...and more.
This is intended as a brainstorming session, and we warmly welcome all
perspectives—especially those different from our own. Your input will
help shape a summary I plan to present at the BoF on Monday[4], where
we hope to extend the discussion to a broader audience beyond DebConf.
Whether you're a newcomer, a long-time contributor, or just curious,
we’d be delighted to have you join either or both sprints!
Kind regards
Andreas & Tassia.
