I'm not sure if a MTA is necessary when using caff. But for my
personal practice, I use pius[1] as a replacement for caff, which uses
python smtp module, thus you can connect to your SMTP provider, and it
will ask you password interactively.
Hope when you discuss the new guide, you can add pius as a second consideration.
