Re: [Debconf-discuss] [Debconf-announce] DebConf14 - Mount St Helens Hiking Information PSA

Thanks Patty for the heads up.

Yet another challenge is how to bring hiking gear while going abroad (or rent stuff locally), and where to put the conference stuff while hiking. If you could help with tips about these two it would probably help a lot of people to check out the hiking option.

Thanks,

Kaplan

Hello, everyone!

DebConf14[0] is fast approaching and the DebConf14 local team is hard at work
preparing venue, accommodations and everything we have come to expect for a
successful DebConf.

I know many DebConf attendees are avid hikers, and some have expressed
interest in visiting/hiking Mount St. Helens[1] while in the vacinity. If
you're planning to come to DebConf14, and it is your intention to partake in
this hike while here, please be sure to investigate this option THOROUGHLY
and EARLY.

You will be responsible for your own transportation to and from Mount St
Helens; please note that to get to Mount St Helens from Portland is a bit of
a drive.

Climing and hiking permits are required at certain elevations on Mount St
Helens, and the time of year DebConf is scheduled is traditionally a very
busy hiking season in the Pacific Northwest. You will want to purchase your
permit online[2] and early if this is your intention.

Please be sure to read up on the area and be prepared for the hiking
conditions that will be present.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in a few months!
Patty
