Parties and concerts

Hi,

P2 mentioned that several people on irc were anticipating to see a little
bit of the local party life, so I gathered some pointers to club and concert
listings in this mail.

The Helsinki tourist office has a decent event calendar, if you go past the
"main events screen" to the search form:

http://www.hel.fi/tourism/EN/tapahtumahaku.asp

They also have map links to the locations. "Helsinki this week" guide is a
another place to get event info in English. You can grab the paper copy of
this magazine in the tourist office (if we don't have it already in the
conference bag, don't remember):

Then if you're into electronic music like I am, here's an easy to use club
calendar even if you don't speak Finnish:

http://www.accesss.org/

For some reason they don't have much anything listed for weekend of July
15-17th yet, maybe they'll add some later. Here are a few other similar
sites:

http://www.klubitus.org/kalenteri.php
http://www.platinum.ac/phpbb/
http://www.elixiria.com (focus on psy-trance/goa, also underground events)
http://www.konemetsa.net/ (a large party in the forest this weekend)

The event calendar of the largest newspaper in Finland has much more
complete listings on many kinds of events but in Finnish so it's more
difficult to navigate:

http://www.nyt.fi/menot/

(hints: "valitse tapahtumalaji" = select the type of event, "elokuva" =
movie, "klubit" = clubs, "musiikki" = music, "näyttelyt" = expositions,
"tanssi" = dance, "urheilu" = sports, "viikko eteenpäin" = one week from
now)

E.g. this gives the listing for "Rock and Jazz" concerts at Helsinki or
nearby during two weeks starting from July 7th:

http://www.nyt.fi/menot/haku?searchDate=7&searchMonth=200507&searchDuration=4&CONTENT=Rock+%26+jazz&SUB_CONTENT=&searchLocation=P%E4%E4kaupunkiseutu&searchWord=

One event perhaps worth a special mention is a free concert of Finnish pop
artists in Kaivopuisto (a park in the south of Helsinki) on Sunday 10th:

I and other locals can help with the locations if you want to go but have
trouble figuring out where the venues are. Street addresses are not
mentioned by all the event calendars if the locations are well known to
locals.
