Re: Your Debconf5 talk proposal

Appealing presentations with LaTeX beamer

Now, please don't get us wrong - This rejection only means it cannot go
in the official schedule. Debconf is a highly informal get-together of
Debian Developers and other interested people in general. This definitifely
does not mean you cannot give your talk - only that it will not be that
official.
I'm thinking about changing the scope (and title) of this talk into a
different direction. I have prepared a LaTeX beamer talk which contains
also some drawings and more complex things than just itemizing and
enumerate environments. I suggested this for the DebianDay at LinuxTag
with the following description:

A talk[1] I was holding in my institute for an absulutely Free Software newbee
audience called "Knowledge, power and free beer" which draws a large
circle around Free Software, software patents, WikiPedia, what are
Linux Distributions and ends up explaining a CDD in a very simple graphical
way. The intention of this talk for the Debian Day audience would be
to enable Debian experts to educate complete newbees about Debian. (The
colleagues I was asking after the talk were happy with it and one of them
   even installed Debian afterwards. ;-))

Because Joost van Baal showed explicite interest and volunteered to translate
this talk I wonder whether I should take this one as an example for the
LaTeX beamer stuff and we might start working on it to prepare a talk we
can hold in front of newbees. I regard this kind of stuff as a valuable
resource because we tend to loose the ability to think like newbees and thus
often fail to explain them what the hell we are doing.

In case I will not recive any comments about this plan after coming back
from my holidays next week I will drop my proposed talk completely because
it does not really fall into my main field of business in Debian and would
cost me extra work (at least in case it is not scheduled on DebianDay on
LinuxTag).

Kind regards

        Andreas.
