Re: DVD-R as backup medium: growisofs + udftools

Hi,

We discussed the snapshot topic a few years ago.
If you remember, the result was that a snapshot
can prevent some inconsistency mishaps but not
all of them. Perfect inconsistency protection is
only achieved by backing up from a filesystem where
no filepointers are open for writing.
E.g. by unmounting the filesystem or by shutting
down the operating system and running the backup
in single user mode.

But this thread is about the possibility to write
several large archive streams onto the same DVD-R without
the need for buffering them and with the opportunity
to eject and re-insert the media between two streams.

Open-ended multi-session for DVD seems to match that
quite well, don't you think ?

Have a nice day :)
