I am still on Linux 2.4 and hopefully i understand the
MMC (i.e. drive) side of burning. So if there is an issue
with Linux then it would be worth the we try again.
But first one should find out wether this is a general problem
with your drive+system and the GET PERFORMANCE command.
For that i propose to try program dvd+rw-mediainfo from dvd+rw-tools.
Example (tray already loaded, containing a DVD+RW):
$ dvd+rw-mediainfo /dev/sr0
...
GET [CURRENT] PERFORMANCE:
Write Performance: 4.0x1385=5540KB/s@[0 -> 2295104]
Speed Descriptor#0: 00/2295104 R@5.0x1385=6925KB/s W@4.0x1385=5540KB/s
Speed Descriptor#1: 00/2295104 R@5.0x1385=6925KB/s W@2.4x1385=3324KB/s
...
If dvd+rw-mediainfo reports errors instead of speed descriptors
then there is a problem with command transport to the drive
or command execution within the drive.
In that case i would help you to hunt down the problem by
libburn and to prepare a bug report for the kernel (or maybe
to find a workaround).
If dvd+rw-mediainfo works well then one would have to examine
the differences of its command usage in comparison to cdrecord.
Have a nice day :)
