dvd+rw-tools update [6.0, DVD-R DL]
dvd+rw-tools 6.0 are available for download at usual location,
http://fy.chalmers.se/~appro/linux/DVD+RW/. In addition to bug fixes
[most notably for Pioneer units] this version features:
- DVD-R Dual Layer support(*);
- internal ring buffer to harmonize the rates at which data is produced
and written(**);
- Win32 port [pre-compiled binaries are provided in separate subcatalog];
- [artificial] version harmonization;-)
(*) do note that due to specification limitations multi-sessioning is
not supported in DVD-R DL context, see
http://fy.chalmers.se/~appro/linux/DVD+RW/-RW/#nomultisess;
(**) which is why [as you may notice] growisofs is multi-threaded
program. it should be pointed out that strace-ing NPTL processes can
apparently disrupt synchronization between threads and cause a deadlock
condition. If you ought to strace growisofs, make sure it's started with
LD_ASSUME_KERNEL environment variable set to 2.4.
As for DVD-R DL. I've got quite discouraging results when testing
DVD-ROM compatibility of fully recorded DL media. Among 8 units, both
players and recorders, only 3 managed to mount it. Both DAO and
Incremental recordings were tested. It seems that elder units have
better chances to mount DL media. A.
