Yes, here's an example of two dummy cdrecord-ProDVD runs. One with 
DVD+RL and the other with DVD+R media. So cdrecord doesn't like the 
unknown media. Again growisofs sees the media as respectively
    Mounted Media:         2Bh, DVD+R Double Layer
    Mounted Media:         1Bh, DVD+R
