Plextor PX-W4824TA 1.06 -multi -dao issue?

Hi,

using cdrecord 2.01a01 with "sudo" on Linux 2.6.10-ac10, I seem to have
troubles with cdrecord -v -dao -multi /tmp/some.iso
but not with cdrecord -v -tao -multi /tmp/some.iso

And I've written a dozen or so discs successfully with:

              cdrecord -v -dao /tmp/some.iso

In the first case, progress get until

Turning BURN-Free on
Performing OPC...

The drive performs OPC (amber blinking LED) for some seconds, then the
LED turns green (medium inserted, drive idle) and spins up to insane
rotational frequency and locks the IDE interface. Only a hardware reset
recovers the drive. Media is a blank relabeled MPO 48X CD-R ("Maxell
CD-R80XL" FWIW), ATIP on request.

Doing the same with -tao works fine.

So my summary is that -dao -multi doesn't work for me.

My explanations are (most likely first)

- firmware bug in Plextor
- cdrecord sends bogus cue sheet in -multi
- something else

How do we go about debugging this?
If it's a firmware bug, what's the contact inside Plextor to ask?

BTW, /etc/default/cdrecord is:

CDR_DEVICE=px4824
px4824= /dev/hdd        -1      64m     burnfree
