Hello.
I recently started to try and burn DVD video on DVD-RW
discs. But after two 'dvd+rw-format', it didn't work
anymore, i.e.
$ dvd+rw-format -blank /dev/hdb
outputs:
* DVD?RW format utility by <appro@fy.chalmers.se>, version 4.9.
:-( failed to locate "Quick Format" descriptor.
:-( can't locate appropriate format descriptor
* 34.0GB DVD-RW media in Sequential mode detected.
* blanking /:-[ PERFORM OPC failed with SK=3h/ASC=73h/ACQ=03h]: Input/output error
On another disk with the same problem, I tried the other options ('-force',
'-blank=full', etc.), and at some point the blanking finished without the error
message, but the disk is still useless as
$ growisofs -Z /dev/hdb=img.iso
outputs:
Executing 'builtin_dd if=img.iso of=/dev/hdb obs=32k seek=0'
:-( none Mode 1 track
Looking on the web, I found only one page where a similar problem was discussed,
but without providing an explanation or solution.
That other person had a 'Plextor PX708A' writer. Mine is an 'MSI DR4-A'.
Info:
$ growisofs --version
* growisofs by <appro@fy.chalmers.se>, version 5.19,
front-ending to mkisofs: mkisofs 2.01a29-unofficial-iconv (i686-pc-linux-gnu)
Debian GNU/Linux (kernel 2.6.7)
Thanks for any help and best regards.
Gilles
