Bug#404450: debconf: configuring X from console makes the screen go blank

Hi,

Did you reproduce this problem regarding the screen going blank while
reconfigure xorg from a console recently? With latest Xorg packages? Do
you get the screen back later, for instance by switching back/to VT
again? Or do you need to reboot or relaunch the X server?

Hi

I am using this laptop as a production machine. So can't really
install packages from unstable to test it out as it might break other
stuff on the system and the downgrade of packages is not supported in
Debian. I hope someone else will be able to help you out there.

I am still able to reproduce this problem on Stable (Etch) though
(with all packages up to date). Atleast in Stable, when I do

dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

from console, I have to reboot the machine as the screen goes
completely blank. I do not understand your comment about "by switching
back/to VT again". I am in the virtual terminal when the screen goes
blank. After that keys like ctrl-alt-f1, ctrl-alt-f2, ctrl-alt-f5 do
not seem to have any effect at all. I have to reboot the machine to
get the screen back.

PS:- I have sent this mail before. But I could not see it in the BTS.
So I am sending it again. Sorry if you received multiple copies.
