 Send USR1 or HUP signal to xfs cause segmantation fault.

console1# /usr/X11R6/bin/xfs -nodaemon

(on other window or virtual console)
console2# ps ax | grep xfs
 9074 ?        S      0:03 /usr/bin/X11/xfs-xtt -user nobody
console2# kill -USR1 9074

 so...

(on previous window or virtual console)
console1# /usr/X11R6/bin/xfs -nodaemon
segmentation fault
console#1

Cannot reproduce anymore.
A patch similar to what the submitter proposed has been applied,
probably without the corresponding closer.
