Since upstream didn't change, that's one of two things:

	a) Debian's patch to the app-defaults file wasn't applied, or

	b) one of the desktop developers modified one of the
	   resource patterns to make more things black-on-white.

Determining which is the case should be trivial (for someone running 210-3).

perhaps another word (the general sense of arcane in this context
means that it's not in the manpage, e.g., "mysterious" or "obscure").

xterm's reverse-video option through the menu provides a quick workaround.
