Bug#368032: xserver-xorg-video-nsc: mouse pointer appears as distorted bitmap

Package: xserver-xorg-video-nsc
Version: 2.7.6.5-2
Severity: important

Most probably an upstream bug (feel free to forward), but well...

Upon X session startup and at random moments later during the session,
the mouse pointer bitmap turns into a square of pixel noise. The pointer
bitmap is sometimes restored, whenever an application changes it e.g.
from an arrow to a text selector, then distorted again later at random.

Whenever this happens, it becomes extremely difficult for the user to
figure out which part of the pointer is supposed to be centerd on a
widget they need to click to interact with applications.

This does not happen using the xserver-xorg-video-vesa driver. However,
the VESA driver makes a poor substitute for the NSC driver, because it
is slower and it produces an off-center image that exceeds the monitor's
screen space, so the VESA driver cannot be used a temporary work-around.
