I login from a system with xserver 4.2.1-12.1 installed to the system
with the new x installed by ssh. (So the libgtk is used from the host
with the error but not the Xserver.) With this constalation I can start
the applications without problemes.

Didn't test this case as I have none of the applications with the
problem on them. But I can try it with audacity... vmware whould be more
problematic as it need kernel modules which is somwhere problematic on
this host.

Same as above. But I can not remember such problemes on this host.

No. Then everythink works well. (Version -12.1 on sarge, not -16)
