If you can't start gdm with /dev/input/mice, in all probability it is
because the kernel module 'mousedev' is not loaded. Along with the
'psmouse' module, that should give you a functional mouse.

(In case you are curious: 'mousedev' is the frontend, 'psmouse' is the
backend, 'input' is the glue between them, and is auto-loaded.)

Peter

Thank you! If I add a 'mousedev' line to /etc/modules, then gdm starts up OK. I suppose this is a kernel-2.6 package bug then?

Interestingly enough, though, the mouse doesn't work. For whatever reason, adding mousedev to /etc/modules causes psmouse to be not loaded. If I also add a 'psmouse' line to /etc/modules, then X and the mouse both work fine.

Again, thanks,

-Mason
