Subject: xbase: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb/symbols/de has acute instead of apostrophe
To: submit@bugs.debian.org
X-Mailer: bug 3.1.5
Content-Type: text

Package: xbase
Version: 3.3.2.2-3

When using the de(nodeadkeys) keyboard configuration,
Shift-<BKSL> is defined as acute ("´"). This doesn't
match the deadkeys configuration (in this case,
Shift-<BKSL> is an apostrophe, "'", which should _not_ be
changed by the user saying "I don't want any dead keys"),
violates the least surprise principle, and leads to ugly
typing mistakes. Additionally, it doesn't match the
symbols you can find on a German keyboard.

Hi,

this bug has been fixed upstream in XFree86 4, as stated in the
CHANGELOG file:
2878. Fix the acute and apostrophe mixup in the German xkb layout with the
nodeadkey option, and add the EuroSign to AltGr+e (#3006, Markus Kuhn).

I am closing it now, thanks for your report.

Denis
