XDM problem after upgrading to 4.2.0pre1v1

After upgrading to the 4.2.0pre1v1 packages my /etc/X11/xdm/xdm-config
had the following two lines in it:

  DisplayManager._0.startup:     /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm/GiveConsole
  DisplayManager._0.reset:      /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm/TakeConsole

which resulted in not being able to start a window manager after logging
in, because these files don't exist. Instead XDM restarted and came back
with the login window.

Commenting out both lines fixed the problem. Did anyone else walk into
this?
