Why?  They cause most of the bloat.

Why do you think static linking is required?  In the situation that
sparked this thread (xauth + ssh), dynamic linking is enough because
on the remote systems, xlibs is required anyway, otherwise you
wouldn't have any applications to which you can forward connections
(some obscure cases involving clx ignored).
