(If the file /proc/fb does not exist or is empty, it should not be.) Try running "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86", and when you are asked: Use kernel framebuffer device interface? Decline the option instead of accepting it. You can leave all the other settings at their current values. Then try restarting the server. Does that work? -- G.
