Dear Branden,

Hope you don't mind me sending this email to you.

I've recently installed woody, and thus a few days ago xfree86 v4.0.1
was installed when I updated. I think there is a bug related to the
keyboard stuff. I have not reported this in the Debian bug reporting
system, as I'm unfamiliar with it. Anyway, here is my scenario:

Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "Generic Keyboard"
    Driver "keyboard"
    Option "CoreKeyboard"
    Option "XkbRules" "xfree86"
    Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
    Option "XkbLayout" "no"
EndSection

I have a norwegian keyboard. At the end of the log file
(/var/log/XFree86.0.log), the following is reported:

Couldn't load XKB keymap, falling back to pre-XKB keymap

However, if I use the "dk" or "de" keyboard layout, this error message
does not appear in the log. Note also that I've had reports of the same
fault from people using the "se" (swedish) keyboard layout.

Also it seems that some keys (øæå) do not work in the terminal windows
(konsole or the Gnome terminal), even though I use the danish keyboard
layout, which have identical keys. However, these works fine in both
Xemacs and Netscape Mail. Do you have any idea as to what could cause
this difference?

Another difference that appeared with the new xfree86 is that the fonts
in both netscape and xemacs are much larger than they used to be. Should
this be, or is there something wrong with my configuration?

Hope that you could help me out with this bug/configuration problem.

Thanks!

Cheers,
