X not starting...high pitched monitor whine (OT?)
Dear List,
I have been fighting w/ 4.0.1 for 2 wks. now and am no closer to
the answer than when I started. I hope that some helpful soul in this
list can help me (my apologies go to Branden if this post violates the
structure he laid out in the XFree86-4.0.1 FAQ!)

X will start but will not output video or recognize the keyboard
after initialization, but the moniter emits a high pitched whine. I have to
telnet into the box and use top to
kill XFree86, which is using 99.9% of CPU. I was using /dev/gpmdata
to configure my M$ mouseport 2.1a before in 3.3.6. I wonder if that is
where the problem lies? But then I should @ least have video, correct?
I would also appreciate a copy of a working X's XFree86.0.log to
compare to mine if someone would be so kind. Thank you for your time
and consideration of this matter.
