New url checker up and running
Now that www.d.o is running potato, I was able to switch to the new
urlchecker. It has many advantages over the old one:
- faster
- gives better messages
- handles more sites correctly
- also checks ftp
- written in python :)
Please take a look at http://www.debian.org/~treacy/urlchecker and
help stamp out bad urls - everywhere in the site, but especially
in areas you work on.
Note that it marks directories missing a final '/' as a (301) Moved
Permanently. It is a good idea to fix these in the source.
Otherwise, browsers need to make two connections before getting to
the right page.
There are still a few loose ends in the script and it hasn't made
it completely through the site yet. If you find a page that it doesn't
handle correctly, please send me some mail.
