though it is in german, you might find out, how it works, edit in file: 
/etc/cups/cups-pdf.conf
this line:
#GSCall %s -q -dCompatibilityLevel=%s -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -dSAFER -
sDEVICE=pdfwrite -sOutputFile="%s" -dAutoRotatePages=/PageByPage -
dAutoFilterColorImages=false -dColorImageFilter=/FlateEncode -
dPDFSETTINGS=/prepress -c .setpdfwrite -f %s

(I did not try it)
