Well, Gmail can filter by subject but this will not catch subject 
changes, so you'll have to create a new filter at each subject change. 
This may or may not be what you want.

Settings -> Filters -> Create a new filter

Put the subject of the thread in the Subject box and click "Create 
filter with this search"

In the next dialog select "Mark as read"[1] and "Delete it"

You might want to also check "Also apply filter to [number] matching 
conversations." then click on "Create filter".

[1] since your client might be configured to jump to unread messages 
even if in Gmail's Trash folder.
