JFYI, according to Debian's rexima package "NEWS.gz" file, that shouldn't 
be a problem:

Now allows mixer device file to be specified, so you can work with
something other than /dev/mixer. Thanks to Ivan Kalvatchev for
(indirectly) suggesting this.
