Thanks for this help..the information is still tediously cryptic like apply a patch
by Helmar Gerloni to test for the existence of directories before trying to remove:

/etc/apm/suspend.d    Does not exist anyway (in Filerunner the venerable file
manager)

/etc/apm/scripts.d/alsa    This isn't there either

dpkg-maintscript-helper  says:

# dpkg-maintscript-helper rm_conffile/etc/apm/scripts.d/alsa
dpkg-maintscript-helper: error: command rm_conffile/etc/apm/scripts.d/alsa is
unknown
