Do you have --manage-gids in /etc/default/nfs-kernel-server set? $ ps -ef | grep rpc.mountd root 1527 1 0 Jul10 ? 00:00:33 /usr/sbin/rpc.mountd --manage-gids While this is a bug fix[1] for some it is a bug source for me.
