I don't use the Debian Chromium as it's too old.

Why not just download Chromium from the Ubuntu ppa? It works fine, and there
is a version that tracks the Google-Chrome developer version too.

Add this to your 'etc/apt/sources.list'

## Chromium Dev matches Chrome Dev version number
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/chromium-daily/dev/ubuntu/ maverick main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/chromium-daily/dev/ubuntu/ maverick main
