I currently see the following on an up-to-date Sid system:
-------------------------8<-------------------------
# aptitude dist-upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading extended state information
Initializing package states... Done
Building tag database... Done
The following packages are BROKEN:
libeel2-2 libsasl2
The following packages will be upgraded:
libeel2-data libsasl2-2 libsasl2-dev libsasl2-modules
The following packages are RECOMMENDED but will NOT be installed:
libeel2-2.18
4 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 671kB of archives. After unpacking 690kB will be used.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libsasl2: Depends: libsasl2-2 (= 2.1.22.dfsg1-8) but 2.1.22.dfsg1-10 is to be installed.
libeel2-2: Depends: libeel2-data (< 2.15) but 2.18.0.1-2 is to be installed.

That looks similar to what Andy Hawkins reported originally, although it
involves different packages.
If I start aptitude in interactive mode, press "U", then "e" and then
"." repeatedly to review aptitude's proposals, then I get a crash at the
same point ("Ouch! Got SIGABRT, dying.. Aborted").
Let me know what I can do. I assume you have a patch for me to try.
Also, since it is unlikely that I ever get a better opportunity to say
this: Thank you so much for aptitude!
