Mouse Pointer Disappears Under xorg "nv" Driver
Om running etch on my shuttle XPC SN21G5. According to lspci, this
machine has on-board GeForce 6100 video:
mmiller@xpc1:~/postgres/8.2.0/postgresql-8.2.0$ lspci |grep VGA
00:05. VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation C51G [GeForce
6100] (rev a2)
Now, "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" does not automatically detect a
proper video driver, and selects "vesa" as the default driver. If I
pound my way through dpkg-reconfigure, accepting defaults all the way, X
works, but scrolling and widow movement are painfully slow. If I tell
dpkg-reconfigure to use "nv" as the video driver, and then run through
the rest of the defaults, I get snappier window behavior, but my mouse
pointer disappears. The mouse still works; if I move it around I'll
eventually see some evidence of where the pointer should be, and I can
click away as usual. However, I can't seem to get an X configuration
that has both snappy window response and a visible mouse pointer.
My mouse is connected to the PS/2 jack, but I've had similar problems
using a USB mouse. I've tried various permutaitons of mouse settings in
dpkg-reconfigure, but to no avail.
What can I try next?
